  • Organize screws and parts meticulously to avoid confusion during reassembly.

Five Most Common Culprits of OE Error in LG Washing Machines

1. Clogged Pump Filter: The filter trap catches debris that may be left in pockets, coins, and wrappers Etc, clean it thoroughly once a month with warm water and a brush.
2. Clogged Drain Hose: Disconnect the hose from the back of the washer and sink/drainpipe. Check for blockages and clear them.
3. Obstructed Sump Hose: This hidden hose collects debris before the pump, trapped objects like socks or small items of clothing can’t stop the water from getting to the pump.
4. Faulty Drain Pump: If cleaning doesn't resolve the issue, the pump itself might be malfunctioning. Consider replacing it, (LG washer pumps can be Ac or Dc voltage depending on how old your machine is). Always use genuine part number or model number to obtain the correct pump.
5. Power Supply Issues: While less common, electrical problems can also cause drainage issues. Check that none of the wires are broken internally. This may not be visible always or you may have no power coming from the printed circuit board due to failure.

Disassembling the LG Washing Machine

Firstly, locate and open the small flap on your washing machine, revealing a pipe inside. Then please drain the machine using a tray that could take a few minutes. After the machine has drained completely, reinsert the plug.

Next, we need to remove the filter. If the can't unscrew the pump filter, it's likely because there's an object, like coins, obstructing it. If so, please don't force it open since you can harm or break the unit.

Inspecting and Removing the Pump From LG Washing Machine

Once you've removed the pump filter, take a closer look at the inside for any debris or coins. Look at the back of the impeller for any small elastic bands or other small items that may have come off clothing. Ensure the impeller turns freely. On AC pumps, you can feel a notching, but on DC pumps, they tend to rotate freely.

If you had a blockage in the pump, retest the machine at this point. If not, inspect the sink unit to ensure that all fittings going to it are clear of obstructions. You can also test the machine by directing the waste hose into a bucket to see if water is coming out. If you can not see, you will need to disassemble the machine.

LG Washing Machine Disassembling the Machine Further

The disassembly process is similar on new and old machines, although the location of the screws varies.

Remove the top lid of the machine and the soap drawer by pressing the button down.

Then please remove the screws holding the panel in place. Depending on your machine's model, there may be one or two screws holding the panel in place. On new machines, there are a couple of catches at the top, and the panel will come off. On older machines, there are catches at the front and the bottom.

Next, you will remove the door seal and this process is the same on both types. Peel the door seal back and remove the two screws holding the door lock.

Remove the flap at the bottom and the one screw inside and then you can easily pull out the plastic cover.

There are two screws on this model. On older types, the whole panel comes off and there are three screws at the bottom.

Then, remove two or three screws at the top, depending on your model. The panel will then come towards you, so all you need to do is lifting it up and removing it.

LG Washing Machine Pump Removal and Replacement

With the panel removed, you can now access the pump. Whether you have an AC or DC pump, you should inspect the sump hose.

You have to take off three clips from the sump hose and the pump. Right after, extract the hoses together with the nut securing the sump hose. When you lower the hose, anything like a little sock can be in the way. After fully removing the hose, give it a thorough cleaning. Additionally, you can clean the pressure bowl tube as well.

Now, you are able to remove the pump. On some LG models, there is a plastic catch underneath that you'll need to release before dropping the pump back. You'll then need to remove the motor harness.

As we mentioned earlier, LG uses two types of pumps: the early versions use an AC pump motor, and from 2020 onwards, a DC pump unit is used. The pumps are visually different, and the later DC version has a different design. However, the process of changing the pumps is similar.

If you've got blockages in the pump and the filter won't unscrew, you might be able to remove any coins blocking the pump through the holes. If you still can't remove it, you can detach the back of the pump by removing the three screws.

By following this guide, you should be able to diagnose and fix the OE error code on your LG washing machine.
