How To Dismantle Hotpoint WMXTF942PUK Washing Machine (or WMUD942)?

How to Dismantle & Replace Parts on a Hotpoint WMXTF942PUK Washing Machine

In this detailed guide, we will explain how to disassemble a Hotpoint WMXTF942PUK washing machine and replace its components. Though this machine is in working order, its drum bearings have failed, making it uneconomical to repair due to the poor condition of its cabinet. For these reasons, we'll be salvaging useful parts like the printed circuit board, motor, and water valves, which are available on our secondhand eBay site.

We would recommend you watch our video since we're taking you on an exclusive tour inside a Hotpoint WMXTF942PUK washing machine, showcasing each component and demystifying their functions.

Safety First!

  • Unplug your Hotpoint WMXTF942PUK washing machine before starting work.
  • Organize screws and parts meticulously to avoid confusion during reassembly.

Tools You'll Need:

  • Screwdrivers (various sizes) or chargeable drill with correct extensions (if you have one).
  • A friend to give you a hand while removing the motor or a hoist.

Removing the Lid & Replacing the Door Seal

To start, the lid of the machine needs to be removed. At the back of the machine, there are two screws holding the lid in place. After unscrewing, it might require a slight hit to remove the lid, revealing the top and bottom of the machine.

The door seal is a common issue for customers. To replace it, locate the spring (usually at the bottom of the seal but might be at the top) and use a small screwdriver to remove the outer band. Once the band is off, peel off the door seal.

On this model, the door seal has a stretchy band that allows it to be removed from the inside. By pushing upwards under the door seal and then pulling it down towards you, the door seal can be removed. To fit the new door seal onto the machine, reverse the process.

Please remember that the whole video includes step-by-step and detailed explanations, which may help you reduce your repair time.

Removing the Facial Panel

Next, we need to remove the facial panel, which will give access to the front panel and the plinth at the bottom. To do this, the soap drawer must be removed first. These drawers are prone to breaking due to corrosion on the pin. Hold the panel and slide the drawer out.

Behind the soap drawer are two screws that need to be removed. If you're in a hard water area, ensure that the jets inside do not block as there are two water valves on this machine that supply the soap drawer.

Once those two screws are out, a couple of screws on the top that remove the metal bar can be removed. Underneath, there are a couple of plastic catches that need to be released. The facial panel and the printed circuit board are both in good condition and will be sold as a complete unit.

Since there are no screws at the top of the panel, it indicates that it's welded.

The next steps in the guide include how to replace the door seal front clamp, door seal inner clamp, soap dispenser drawer, and digital display & panel.

Removing the Hotpoint WMXTF942PUK Washing Machine Pump

Now, let's move on to the pump. The pump is located at the bottom of the machine and is held in place by three screws. The pump is connected to the machine by means of two pipes and some electrical wires. Please carefully disconnect these before removing the pump.

After unscrewing and disconnecting the pipes and wires, you can gently pull out the pump. It's also a good idea to check the condition of the pump impeller at this step. If it's worn or damaged, it could be the cause of poor washing machine performance.

Replacing the Motor of the Hotpoint Washing Machine

Next, let's have a look at how to replace the motor. First, disconnect the electrical connections on the motor and remove the drive belt. Once these are removed, you can unscrew the motor from the bottom of the washing machine.

Carefully pull the motor out and inspect it for any signs of damage. If the motor is in good condition, it can be reinstalled in another machine or sold.

Replacing the Printed Circuit Board

The printed circuit board is located behind the facial panel. To reach it, you'll need to remove the facial panel as described earlier.

Once you've accessed the printed circuit board, carefully disconnect any wires that are attached to it. Then, unscrew the board and gently pull it out. The board can be reused if it's in good condition.

Disassembling a washing machine can seem hard and compelling, but with patience and care, it's possible to salvage many reusable parts. Always remember to disconnect the machine from the power source before starting any work on it.
