Fixing a Hotpoint Aquarius Washer Dryer That Doesn't Dry

Welcome to our guide on how to fix a washer dryer that doesn't dry during the tumble dryer cycle. Washer dryers operate as condenser dryers, which is different from the usual venting tumble dryers. They circulate warm air through the clothes as they tumble. The moist air is then collected on a condenser plate, and the pump expels the water through the drainage system.

Before starting the repair, always ensure the appliance is unplugged from the electricity supply. All work should be done by someone with a good knowledge of electrics. The tumble dryer we're working on had a problem with no heat. We will go through the heating system to find the fault.

We would recommend you watch our video since we're showing you how easily you can fix the heating problem on your Hotpoint Aquarius washer dryers.

Checking the Thermal Cut-out, Water Valve & Replacing the Heater

The first thing to check is the thermal cut-out or the thermal protection system. It is designed to blow if the area gets too hot. If you have continuity on the thermal cut-out, it is in good condition. If the heater is in good condition, we should have a circuit. However, if the element has gone open circuit, means that it has blown.

To confirm that there are no other problems before the heating element, we'll quickly put the power back on the machine and wait for the machine to start. We want to ensure that we have 240 volts at the heating element.

Next, you will need to remove the front panel to check the water valve system. Before removing the wiring, always take a photograph or make notes of where all the wires go as we will need to remove all this wiring.

There are about seven torque head screws that need to be removed to take off the casing. Once the casing is off, we can clearly see the heater.

To replace the heater, we'll use a 19mm socket and carefully undo the two nuts to release the element. Once released, we can clearly see the split in the element.

Before proceeding to fit the new heater, make sure to check the two water valve systems. These are important because sometimes the water valves fail, and no water is going down the back plate onto the condensing unit. This stops the condensing process, making your clothes hot but not dry.

Once the water valve systems have been checked, replace the torque heads all around and reattach the wiring.

Now, it's time to test the machine. Place a couple of items of clothing in the machine and run a test load for about 30 minutes. If everything has been done correctly, your machine should be working perfectly again.
