Years ago, the inner plastic panels were secured with screws. Now, in the drive to reduce manufacturing costs, many are glued directly to the insulation, with the door seal fitted behind the plastic and fixed in place with adhesive.

You may still be able to fit the replacement seal using a slow-curing silicone compound suitable for food-contact areas. Before beginning, defrost the appliance completely and ensure every surface is dry, with no moisture left behind. Once the seal is positioned and glued, keep the door firmly closed with a bungee strap or similar restraint for six to twelve hours while the compound cures.

Take care when aligning the seal. It must sit flush against the cabinet, without raised sections that leave the door slightly open. Even a small gap will allow warm air inside, preventing the freezer from holding its temperature properly. Check the seal from every angle along both sides of the door.
