Check Your Drain Pipe Setup

First, ensure the washing machine's drain pipe reaches above the outlet by creating a U bend. This stops water from siphoning back into the machine. If water is being pulled back into the drum after a cycle, it can sit and stagnate, creating foul odours. Check that your drain hose is positioned correctly and not kinked or blocked.

Run Regular Tub Cleaning Cycles

Modern washing machines use colder cycles, which can cause sludge buildup in the drum. To prevent this, do a boil wash or use the tub cleaning feature at least once every six months. I recommend using dishwasher tablets and old rags for a thorough clean. The high temperature and the abrasive action of the rags will help shift stubborn deposits and kill bacteria that cause odours.
