Samsung WD90TA046BX Washing Machine Water Leaks from Soap Drawer
I was assembling my Samsung WD90TA046BX washing machine, and water is leaking from the detergent drawer. Could you please help me?
Hi Vlad, thanks for your question regarding your Samsung WD90TA046BX washing machine leaking water from the detergent drawer.
Water may leak from the soap drawer for two reasons.
First, the pipe from the soap drawer to the drum may be blocked. It could be clogged with hard detergent powder or an item that has fallen into the drawer. High water pressure may also cause water to overflow.
Second, the machine may not be draining within the correct time.
When a washing machine leaks or overflows from the soap drawer—especially during a rinse or spin cycle—it almost always means there is a restriction in the water outlet. The machine is trying to pump the water out, but because of a blockage, the water backs up and forces its way out of the lowest open point, which is your soap drawer.
Here are the four main areas you need to check on your Samsung WD90TA046BX:
1. The Sink Fitting & Waste Pipe The easiest test first! Disconnect your grey waste hose and point it into a large bucket. Turn the machine onto a spin/drain cycle. If you get a strong, fast flow of water, your washing machine is fine, and the blockage is actually in your sink's plumbing (often caused by congealed cooking fat or debris).
2. The Pump Filter If no water comes out of the hose, you need to check the pump. Disconnect the electricity and use the small drain-down hose next to the filter to empty the machine into a shallow tray. Once empty, unscrew the filter and look for coins, hair clips, or a buildup of lint.
3. The Pump Impeller While the filter is out, shine a torch inside the housing to look at the pump impeller blades at the back. Small items like hair bobbles, elastic bands, or string can wrap around the impeller, stopping the motor from turning fast enough to pump the water out.
4. The Sump Hose (The Anti-Siphon Ball) If the pump is totally clear, the blockage is likely in the thick black sump hose that connects the bottom of the drum to the pump. Small items like baby socks, handkerchiefs, or tissues can slip between the door seal and the inner drum, ending up jammed inside this hose around the anti-siphon ball.
⚠️ Crucial Tip: Watch the Video Fully! I have included a detailed troubleshooting video below, and I strongly recommend that you watch it fully before you start taking things apart. It will show you exactly how to do the bucket test, how to drain your machine without flooding your floor, and how to safely lean the machine back to remove and clean the sump hose.
If you find that the pump motor itself has failed or you need a replacement sump hose, we have a full range of spare parts and exploded diagrams on the website.
Hope this helps you get your machine draining properly again! If you need any more help, feel free to reach out.
All the best, Paul.
