My Hotpoint WDL540 washing machine been very noisy for a while, since found that the front weight is broken, I have ordered a replacement from hotpoint, looking to replace it myself. Will I need to completely remove the drum?? As the front panel is welded!! Thank you for any assistance you can give Regards Joe
Hi Joseph,
Thanks for your question regarding your Hotpoint WDL540 washer dryer.
Yes, to replace a broken front weight on this model, you will need to completely remove the washer dryer drum from the cabinet. This is because the front panel of the Hotpoint WDL540 is welded to the chassis and does not come off, meaning the drum has to be lifted out through the top or the back.
Here is a breakdown of what the process involves:
-
Initial Teardown: You will need to remove the top lid, the back panel, and the drive belt.
-
Front Strip-Down: From the front, you'll need to remove the door, peel back the door seal (gasket), and take off the facial panel and the bottom plinth.
-
Disconnecting Components: To free the drum, you must disconnect the top steel retention bar, the wiring harness, the motor, the water hoses, the bottom suspension legs, and the top suspension springs.
-
Lifting the Drum: Once everything is disconnected, the drum can be carefully lifted out of the cabinet so you can access the concrete weights.
⚠️ Crucial Tip: Watch the Video First! I cannot stress enough how important it is to watch the video fully before you begin. Taking the drum out involves releasing hidden plastic clips and dealing with heavy components. The video will walk you through the entire teardown step-by-step, showing you exactly how to do it safely, and is packed with essential tips for putting it all back together.
A Warning on Reassembly: When you are reassembling your machine and fitting the new front weight, do not overtighten the bolts holding the concrete block on the front of the drum. These bolts screw directly into the plastic drum tub. If you apply too much pressure, the plastic will break, which could mean having to replace the entire tub.
To further assist you, I've included a test meter at the top of the page, this will help you check if everything is working right once the machine is reassembled. At the bottom of the page, there is a full list of spare parts and diagrams to help you identify any other pieces you might need.
I hope this helps you get your Hotpoint WDL540 washer dryer back up and running. Have a great day, and if you need more help, feel free to contact us!
