LG WM2650HWA Washing Machine Shows dE Error Code & Door Will Not Lock
I have an LG WM2650HWA Washing Machine. When starting washing door will not lock we have to keep trying holding the door until it locks gives me error code dE
Hi Robert,
Thanks for getting in touch about your LG WM2650HWA washing machine and for providing the details about the dE error code. The dE error simply stands for door lock error, which means the machine's PCB cannot confirm that the door is securely locked and safe to start the wash cycle.
Because you mentioned that you have to physically hold the door shut to get it to lock, there are a couple of things going on here. The most common issue is that the electrical door interlock mechanism inside the front panel has worn out and is failing to engage. However, because pushing and holding the door helps it lock, you should also check the door hinges and the plastic latch pin on the door itself. Over time, the heavy glass door can cause the hinges to drop slightly, meaning the pin does not line up perfectly with the hole in the lock. Pushing the door often lifts or forces it just enough to make that electrical connection.
If your hinges feel tight and the door seems to be closing squarely, you will almost certainly need to replace the door interlock mechanism on your LG WM2650HWA. Replacing the lock is a very straightforward job that you can easily do yourself at home. You just need to unplug the machine from the electricity, use a flat-blade screwdriver to carefully pry off the metal spring band holding the rubber door seal gasket, and peel the seal back. From there, you simply undo the two screws holding the lock, pull it out, and swap the electrical wiring plug onto the new unit. Always check the plastic wiring plug for any little black burn marks while you have it off, just to ensure the harness is in good condition.
I have included a detailed video below that shows this exact repair, and I highly recommend that you watch the video fully before you start taking anything apart. The video will visually walk you through exactly how to remove that tricky metal spring band without pinching or tearing your rubber seal, how to unclip the wiring safely, and how to wrestle the spring back into place once you are done. Seeing the techniques used makes the physical repair significantly easier and will save you a lot of frustration.
When you are ready to get the replacement part, please be aware that LG locks can sometimes be very specific to the exact manufacture date of the machine but if you struggle to find the exact door interlock for your LG WM2650HWA, just send us a message via the contact page with your model and serial number from the sticker inside the door, and we will happily locate the exact match for you.
I hope this helps you get your machine starting on its own again without you having to stand guard holding the door! Feel free to reach out if you need any more help.
All the best,
Paul
