How to Remove a Key or Ttem Stuck Between Samsung Washing Machine Drums
Had a house key in a pocket during the wash and it has gone between the inner and outer drum. Could not fish it out with wire. Removed door seal to get better access but it is not reachable. Want to remove front panel to access the heater and hopefully be able to retrieve key from there but having a devil of a time removing the front panel to access the heater. All screws have been removed and the front panel is loose but the panel will not come away from the machine
Tools Required
Hi Chris,
Thanks for reaching out with those details. I've put together some guidance to help you safely retrieve that key from between the drums of your Samsung washing machine. While specific models can vary slightly in their construction, the methods below should guide you through the process effectively.
Two Approaches to Access the Key
Method 1: Access from the Bottom
The first option involves removing selected components from the base of the machine to create an access point. This approach is often less invasive and can work well if you're comfortable working underneath the unit. You'll need to carefully remove panels and any obstructing parts to reach the space between the drums.
Method 2: Remove the Heater Element
The second method requires removing the heater element, which sits in the drum assembly. This can be more challenging because heater elements frequently become stuck due to mineral buildup and the rubber seals around them. However, it does provide direct access to the drum cavity. Take your time with this approach and apply gentle, steady pressure rather than force.
Recommended Tools for the Job
Having the right tools makes a significant difference. I'd suggest keeping these on hand:
- Heavy-duty pliers — Essential for safely removing and reinstalling the doorbands (the metal clips that secure the door seal). These can be tight, so quality pliers with good grip are worth the investment.
- Multimeter — A diagnostic meter that checks electrical continuity and measures power consumption. This is invaluable for verifying that components are working correctly after reassembly and for troubleshooting any electrical issues during the wash cycle.
Video Guides
this video will show you how to remove a heating element from your Samsung washing machine. It is not on the same make, but it will give you a good idea how to remove it.
I've attached two videos to walk you through the process step by step. The first covers the general dismantling procedure for Samsung washing machines, and the second focuses specifically on heater element removal. Watch both before you start so you know what to expect.
Take your time, work methodically, and don't hesitate to pause and review the videos as you go. With patience and the right approach, you'll have that key out in no time. Best of luck with the repair!
