Hotpoint NSWM7469WUK Washing Machine Shows F05 Error Repeatedly
Hi Paul, I love your videos on YouTube and couldn't agree more with the sorry and depressing state of planned obsolescence in appliances and electronics. I have a HotPoint washing machine - NSWM7469WUK, this was a replacement given to us due to a recall on the original machine due to the dodgy door latch mechanism that had led to a number of house fires. This specific 7kg model unlike the other rated capacities has a VERY large gap between the door bellows and drum, so any smaller clothing items are guaranteed to slip through and get stuck around the sump ball, and the drain filter and potentially drain pump. Already this year I had an engineer replace the failed drain pump with an upgraded one as he said HotPoint won't admit the original pump is not adequate. Since then I've been using the mesh bags for socks and underwear. I'm a dad of a 2 and 3 year old so you can imagine the volume of laundry we have. Although I take care to load the machine, my wife might miss a sock hidden in other clothes. And that is literally all it takes, 1 child sock slipped through and got blocked around the sump ball giving an F05 error. I am sick to death of having to overnight once family is asleep and I'm free, pull out the washing machine whilst it's fully loaded, elevate it alone so I can drain from the front, and get underneath to drain disconnect the sump house and drain the drum. The reason I am contacting you is I want to replace this machine with a larger capacity one that will have less issues. Reliability and performance are important as I don't have the time to keep dealing with unexpected DIY problems and my washing machine needs to be a work horse, as sometimes I run this 7k CrapPoint 3 times a day at peak, otherwise regularly once or twice a day. I would love to buy a machine with a splittable drum to reduce future repair costs hence I like Asko but availability and price is prohibitive. I wish the Asko Style Plus model was available in the UK. I am on the cusp of buying this 10kg 70l drum Bosch model - WGH254ARGB for £669.02 direct from Bosch (current price is £799). Despite the sealed drum and high feature set meaning more that could go wrong, at least it has a 5 year parts & labour warranty. Although this version is pricier than the other 3 series 6 10kg options and I am not bothered about iDos, it has the most complete programme feature set, the Anti stain options are appreciated being a busy household with young kids, the 70l drum suits our large laundry volume and super king bedding etc, and also my wife wants it to match our graphite LG dryer so this is my only 10kg Bosch option - The Bosch brochure linked below has a good breakdown on page 46 of the features and comparison between their other models. Before I pull the trigger, I'd greatly appreciate your input if there are any other options from other brands you would recommend for me? I was looking at LG who seem to be pushing AI this AI that - just algorithms basically but frustratingly I can't find information about their drum volume rather than weighted capacity. This LG model looked interesting - F4X7013TSB. I don't really want to spend more than £700 including delivery. As I can sometimes be guilty of overbuying features, PLEASE HELP ME MAKE A DECISION PAUL, BOSCH WGH or OTHER? Needs: Anti Stain, Reliable (relative to modern day junk), Steam, Speed Options (not just for tiny loads), Decent Efficiency, 5 year warranty minimum, no massive gaps between door seal & drum, graphite / grey / silver colour.
Hi Mudassar, thanks a lot for the question regarding your Hotpoint NSWM7469WUK Washing Machine.
I completely understand your frustration. Dealing with an F05 error on a fully loaded machine in the middle of the night is a nightmare, and having to manually drain it from the front is a massive headache. Using mesh bags is the right workaround for now, but a machine shouldn't be eating socks in the first place.
ASKO washing machines have impressed me in recent years because they are well made. They also offer a five-year guarantee. You can watch our related video down below:
They recently gave me access to their database, which helps me support customers with technical information. However, I understand they may be outside your budget.
It is a shame that many manufacturers no longer make good-quality products. It often feels like they only care about shareholders
Before we look at the specific machines, I strongly advise you to reconsider the colour requirement. I know you want it to match your graphite LG dryer, but choosing a machine based on colour greatly limits your options. White machines dominate the market, giving you a much wider choice of reliable models, and they are significantly easier to replace or match in the future.
For a household running a machine up to three times a day, the Bosch WGH254ARGB is the safer choice, primarily because of the warranty. Whatever machine you choose, it should include at least a full 5-year parts and labour warranty.
While the Bosch has a sealed drum—which goes against everything the Right to Repair movement stands for—that 5-year warranty guarantees you won't pay a penny for repairs during that time. Bosch machines are generally very good, though spare parts like control boards and drum assemblies can be very expensive once the warranty ends.
The LG is a great machine mechanically. LG machines have a split drum, which makes bearing repairs much easier down the line. However, electrical parts can still be incredibly costly if they fail, and without a promotional 5-year warranty, you are taking a risk on a heavily used machine after year two.
Most manufacturers today do not fully support the right to repair, so protecting yourself with a comprehensive warranty is the best defence against built-in obsolescence.
It is also worth telling your wife that, in my opinion appliances today with the amount of workload that you are giving it are never going to last you much longer than seven years. Therefore, it is worth keeping your purchasing options. Easier by having white. You will be able to flick between any brand. There is no real machine out there today that is built to withstand the workload of a normal family. They only build machines to last limited periods of time. You are going to save a lot of money. By going into the white appliance ecosystem and not having a limited choice via color. Make sure you always purchase machines with a minimum of five-year warranty. As this will at least protect your family. For that period of time.
