Hoover HLXV85TGX-AUS Vented Tumble Dryer Bump Bump Noise
I have Hoover 8.5kg Link X Care Vented Tumble Dryer HLXV85TGX-AUS model. I am trying to locate the source of a “bump bump” noise that happens with each rotation of the drum. The sounds appears to align with the same point of the drum. I just uploaded a video of my machine making the noise https://youtube.com/shorts/kaVjhq-sNms?feature=share.I have watched it while running with the top and lower front panel off and cannot see anything obviously wrong. I have felt the drum edge against the front rollers as I spun the drum by hand and there is nothing that would make the noise. I also can’t get the noise to happen by just spinning the drum by hand, only when it is running. Any idea what it might be? Otherwise do you think it is safe to just use with the noise? It is a brand new machine that I haven’t used yet. But I bought it off Facebook (still in the packaging) so no chance for warranty. Any advice you could give would be really appreciated! Thanks.
Thanks a lot for sending the video footage of the problem with your machine.
I will try and help with this problem about Hoover HLXV85TGX-AUS Vented Tumble Dryer,
Hi Brenton,
Sorry to hear about the issue with your tumble dryer. That sound is usually due to fluff building up on the two pulley wheels at the front bottom of the machine. If you check the diagrams below this article, you'll see parts numbered 230 and 835. Fluff can accumulate on these wheels, causing a thumping noise with each rotation. Often, cleaning them solves the problem.
To clean them, remove the front of the machine to access the pulleys. Another possible issue could be slight damage to the belt, which also causes a thumping sound during rotation. These are common problems for this type of noise.
Thanks for sending the YouTube video; it helped me diagnose the issue clearly. I've included some videos below that might help you further. If you need any parts, there's a full list at the bottom of the page. Match the reference number from the diagram to get the genuine part number. You can order parts using these numbers via our sidebar link, and they'll arrive from our European supplier within a few days.
Hopefully, just cleaning the wheels will fix your problem. When you remove the front of the machine, have your vacuum cleaner ready for a thorough clean inside. This will improve efficiency and reduce drying time, saving you money on electricity.
I hope this helps!
