Hoover HLE C10DCE-80 Condenser Tumble Dryer Drum Not Spinning Once Turned On

September 04, 2026
Customer Question

We have a Hoover HLE C10DCE-80 / 31102475 Condenser Tumble Dryer. It was part way through a cycle when I heared an odd humming noise coming from the drier. Turned it off as it wasn’t spinning and opened the door, lots of steam and smelt very hot like burned clothes! Nothing burned but the drum wouldn't move when turning on. It does move by hand freely. I believe it to be the capacitor but can’t find a replacement for it. It’s a 5uf 500V and can’t seem to find one with the same specs, is there an alternative I could use?

Hi Emily,

Thank you for sending the information regarding your Hoover HLE C10DCE-80 Condenser Tumble Dryer. To test if the capacitor is faulty, remove the lid, switch the dryer on, and listen for a humming sound from the motor. While it is humming, gently push the drum in either direction.

If the motor starts running after you push the drum, the capacitor is likely faulty.

The 5µF capacitor you mentioned seems quite low for a tumble dryer motor. Please check that you have identified the correct capacitor, especially as this looks like a newer dryer. Hoover dryers often use 8µF or 9µF capacitors.

If you have a 7uF capacitor, here is the spare part link for you.

I have also included a video showing how to replace tumble dryer capacitors. Your model may be slightly different, but it should give you a general guide.

if you need further help, feel free to contact us or even give us a call via WhatsApp and I should be able to assist you.
