Grundig GTN39250GCW Heat Pump Tumble Dryer Not Heating

December 18, 2024
Customer Question

I have a Grundig GTN39250GCW Heat Pump Tumble Dryer. Unit turns, but only blows cold air. Have looked at your video for Beko dryers not heating, but once I have the back off there is no thermostat board to be seen (just the fan. There is a small panel bottom right at the back but this seems to be the fluid sensor? I have some photos I can send. Thanks Nick

Hi Nick,

Sorry to hear about the problem with your Grundig heat pump tumble dryer, model GTN 39250 GCW. These dryers are usually made by Beko, and you're in luck because they provide excellent workshop information for repairs.

I've got the wiring diagram, some diagnostic pages, and the workshop manual for you. The manual has over 90 pages of detailed information on servicing the machine and testing each component separately. It also includes a diagnostic sequence to help you.

Let me explain the issue. Heat pump tumble dryers often have fluff build-up in the condenser and evaporator. If fluff accumulates here, it restricts airflow and can stop the compressor from turning on. This means it can't heat or condense the air properly, so water can't be pumped to the collection drawer. It's crucial to keep these coils clean and ensure water can drain to the pump system. Blockages can restrict airflow and prevent the compressor from activating.

Another possible issue is the refrigeration unit losing gas, which stops it from heating or condensing air properly. This would also prevent clothes from drying. Additionally, there could be a fault with the compressor or sensors.

Since I don't have your machine in front of me, I can only guide you through the repair process. That's why I've provided all this information. Take your time cleaning the system and checking that the compressor runs at proper temperatures. On the cooling side, expect temperatures between 0 and -20 degrees, depending on airflow over the coil. On the high side, it should heat air to 30-40 degrees or more, depending on room temperature.

Work through the workshop manual carefully to diagnose the problem. I suspect it's either a fluff build-up or a lack of gas in the system. Compressor faults are rare but can happen due to fluff getting past filters into the coils.

I hope this helps you diagnose and repair your machine. I'll be making a full-length video on heat pump tumble dryers soon. Good luck with your repair!
