Grundig GTN38240GCW Heat Pump Tumble Dryer Condenser Lift Pump Is Continuously On When Turned On At Mains

Grundig GTN38240GCW Heat Pump Tumble Dryer's pump failed so replaced with genuine new pump and float switch. Now the pump is on continuous when machine has mains supply regardless of if machine is on or off. Looked at float switch, activating correctly when compressed stopping cycle but not pump. Took machine apart and followed your service video. No obvious issues. Don’t think it’s the pump or float switch. Maybe whatever sends signal to pump?? Any help greatly appreciated thanks for your time. James

Thanks very much for your question about your Grundig heat pump tumble dryer. You mentioned that the pump failed and has been replaced, and that the float switch is working correctly. One thing you haven't told me is whether you've checked if the float that activates the float switch is in the correct position. The switch should not be activated when there is no water in the chamber. If it’s a polystyrene float, it should be at the bottom when reassembled. It’s possible it got jammed during assembly.

I found some information on your model, GTN38240GCW, which is made by Beko. I have test procedures and a wiring diagram for your machine to help with the repair. The pump should only run at certain points during the cycle, usually activated by the circuit board. Check all the wiring from the pump unit to the circuit board to ensure everything is attached correctly and make sure you haven’t accidentally wired the pump incorrectly if there are more than two wires.

There may also be an additional sensor in the bottom of the machine that detects if water is in the drain down system going from the evaporator to the condenser this may be active due to a false reading. You will need to consult the wing diagram and also any exploded views that you can find of the machine.
