Crusader CT32V Vented Tumble Dryer Loud Noise Coming From Drum
After 20+ years of exemplary service, my trusty little Crusader CT32V vented dryer has suddenly started making a very loud noise during the drying cycle. It sounds like there's something heavy banging around inside it, like a shoe, but makes that noise irrespective of whether there is a load in it or not. Someone suggested it might be the bearing - I'm wondering if investigating that is something someone like me (with moderate handy skills) can do/repair, or if it's an engineer job. The dryer is old, but it has worked perfectly until now and is a rare front venting style which is the perfect size (small, 3kg load) and model for its location in my flat. (I don't have a YouTube account to upload a video to, or else I would send a video.)
Hi Sarah, sorry to hear about the problem regarding your Crusader CT32V Vented Tumble Dryer.
The Crusader CT32V is a vented tumble dryer that was manufactured by White Knight, a brand that is no longer in active production. This means finding spare parts can be challenging, but many components are still available through specialist suppliers.
If your Crusader tumble dryer is making a loud noise from the drum, there are several common culprits to investigate:
- Rear bearings — Over time, the bearings that support the drum can wear out, causing a grinding or rumbling sound during operation.
- Jockey wheel or belt tensioner — A worn or misaligned jockey wheel can create squeaking or rattling noises as the drum rotates.
- Fan blades — The two fan blades in the dryer can become loose, cracked, or obstructed, resulting in a loud whirring or banging sound.
- Drum seals or rollers — Damaged seals or worn rollers may also produce unusual noises during the drying cycle.
How to diagnose the problem:
Without hearing the specific sound, it can be difficult to pinpoint the exact issue. If possible, record a short video of the dryer in operation and upload it to YouTube. You can then compare your recording to other videos of Crusader or White Knight compact tumble dryer problems — there are several demonstrations available that may match your symptoms and help identify the fault.
Start by examining the rear of the dryer and checking the condition of the bearings, belt, and fan blades. If you notice visible wear, cracks, or loose components, these are likely the source of the noise.
Many replacement parts for the Crusader CT32V are still obtainable, particularly common wear items such as bearings, seals, and belts. Contact a specialist appliance parts supplier to confirm availability before attempting any repairs.
