Candy GVS C10DE-80 Condenser Tumble Dryer Won't Spin
I have a Candy GVS C10DE-80 Condenser Tumble Dryer. It lights up but won't spin unplugged a few times and worked but will not work now.
Hi Patrick, thanks very much for sending the question in regarding your Candy GVS C10DE-80 Condenser Tumble Dryer.
I'm sorry to be a little vague with my answer, but your question wasn't really detailed. If it isn't spinning, it's a possibility that it's the motor or the motor brushes on older models of machines.
Checking the Motor on Older Machines
To dismantle it is quite simple. You will need to:
- Take the back off the machine
- Disconnect it from the electricity supply
- Remove the motor to check the carbon brushes
Carbon brushes wear over time and can prevent your drum from spinning. Replacing them is often a straightforward fix that can save you money on a repair engineer visit.
Modern Machines: Inverter Motors
On more modern machines, these motors don't have carbon brushes. They are inverter motors which are driven by a circuit board. This is a whole different kettle of fish. If your machine has an inverter motor, the issue is likely to be with the circuit board or the motor itself rather than brushes, and diagnosis will require more specialist equipment.
Next Steps
I've included some videos below to assist you, and I've also included some technical diagrams from the manufacturer, which will help you with your repair. If you're unsure which type of motor your machine has, check your model number against the manufacturer's specifications—this will tell you whether you have a brushed or inverter motor before you start taking anything apart.
