Bosch WKD28541GB/06 Washer Dryer Condensing Unit Contains Lint and Limescale
Hello Paul. I have a Bosch WKD28541GB/06 washer dryer and the condensing unit contains lint and limescale. I love your videos because they are super informative. In one video, you mentioned that the condensing unit might need a good clean, and that you would show how to do this in another video. However, I cannot seem to find this video anywhere. I asked Bosch about it, but they were not forthcoming with any info and just told me to get an engineer to look at it. My ex-husband just replaced the carbon motor brushes yesterday. When the back panel was removed, we noticed that the plastic container on the left side is clogged with lint. I found out from one of your great videos that this is the condenser unit. It is not causing a major problem for the drying process currently, but I still want to find out how this condensing unit could possibly be cleaned. Can it be removed from the machine, rinsed out, and then put back? How would this work, and could it be done easily by someone other than an engineer? Can you help me? I would love to hear from you.

Unlike a standard standalone tumble dryer, a combined washer dryer relies on a unique water cooled condensing system to dry your clothes. Inside these machines, a metal condenser plate is located at the back of the appliance. During the drying cycle, cold water from your home's main water supply slowly trickles down this plate. As warm, damp air from the wet laundry passes over this cold surface, the moisture turns back into water vapor and drains away.
Because laundry air is full of lint, these machines are highly prone to building up fluff inside the drying components over time. To keep the appliance running efficiently and prevent drying failures, it is highly recommended to strip down and clean the heating box, the condenser plate and the fan motor every two to three years.
Depending on your specific Bosch model, you can access and clean the entire heating assembly located at the top of the machine.

The Heating Box: Located on the top left, the heating box houses the element that warms the air. This compartment can be opened up so you can clear out any accumulated lint that restricts airflow.

The Fan Motor and Blades: Situated at the top right, the fan motor draws air through the condenser box and pushes it back into the door seal. Over time, wet fluff sticks to the fan blades and dries hard.

The Importance of Cleaning the Fan: Think of the fan blade like a car wheel. If fluff builds up unevenly on the blades, the fan becomes imbalanced. This imbalance causes a wobble, which quickly wears out the motor bearings, makes the machine incredibly noisy, and can cause the motor to fail prematurely.

One last advice for you, using a simple tool like an old toothbrush, you can gently scrub the dried fluff off the fan blades. Keeping these blades clean ensures optimal airflow, stops the motor from vibrating out of balance, and significantly prolongs the life of the entire drying system.
