Customer Question

Hi Paul, having watched your video regarding changing an oven fan, I think I need your help!We have a Beko ODF 22300 x Oven. A bit old but immaculate. It has stood for 4 years in an empty house. It did work fine prior to this. Having recently re fitted it back in and switching on, it tripped the electric. It has a few times now.It doesn't trip out straight away. It can be on for a good while but as soon as I turn a dial, (oven or grill) it trips. I'm quite competent so disconnected the earth supply and run it for about an hour increasing the temp every 10-15 minutes to maybe dry out the elements. Re connected Earth but still trips when turning a dial randomly.Elements both heat up full orange glow.I did notice the fan not turning, (hence watching your video) does with a litthe help but not no where near up to speed. So definitely needs replacing but would this cause the Tripping issue? Or is it the Selectors but surely not both?I don't want to give up on the Oven as it was my late parents but not sure where to turn. Any help or advise would be so much appreciated. Kind Regards, Paul Norris

I will try and help with this problem about BEKO ODF22300X Cooker Oven,

Hi Paul sorry about the hear your problem with BEKO ODF22300X Cooker Oven. To test the element properly, you’ll need a megger or insulation tester. You might have seen me using one in some of my recent videos on how to test elements.

The first thing I would do is disconnect the cooker from the electricity supply. Then, using insulation tape, I’d remove each wire from the element and tape them up individually to ensure they’re safe and won’t create a short. This is a simple way to diagnose whether the issue is with the element itself or the cooker.

Once all the wires are safely insulated, you can plug the cooker back in, power it up, set the timer to manual, and test each function: fan oven, grill, and base element. This will help you determine which part is faulty. If it still trips with all the elements disconnected, then the fault is not with the elements. Instead, it could be due to the selector switch, another component in the cooker, or possibly chafed wires.
