Bauknecht TK UNIQ 83A GBW Heat Pump Tumble Dryer Showing Water Tank Error & Not Drying Laundry

Customer Question

Hi Paul, I’m hoping for some advice, ideas, or guidance regarding a problem with my Bauknecht TK UNIQ 83A GBW tumble dryer. It is a heat pump model. About a month ago, I disassembled the dryer to clean the condenser fins; at the same time, I replaced the old start capacitor with a new one and installed a new drive belt. About two weeks ago, the dryer started triggering a "water tank full" error on all programs, and the laundry remains damp. The water drains directly into the sewage system. The error appears after 30 minutes of operation—sometimes 45 minutes—after which I can restart it normally; the cycle repeats until the laundry is finally dry. It always ends with an error (see video). I cleaned the water reservoir and the pump of any debris (I even bought a new pump just to be safe), as well as the water level sensor, the float, and the outlet hose. The error persists even with the new pump. I tested the conductivity of the water level sensor, and the multimeter showed no issues during manual movement (switched on at the bottom, disconnected when moving upwards). I tried pouring 0.5 liters of water through the drain outlet while the machine was running to see if the pump would react; the pump activated immediately as I poured the water and drained almost all of it. I’m not sure what to check next—perhaps a faulty relay on the mainboard? I haven't tested that yet. I also wondered if the humidity sensor might be the problem. I measured it (the stainless steel contact near the door and the dryer drum): it read 17 MΩ when dry and around 17 kΩ with wet laundry. Please help; thank you very much for your reply. Apologies for my English. Best regards Tomas

Hi Tomas,

Thank you for providing those details about your Bauknecht TK UNIQ 83A GBW heat pump tumble dryer issue.

I appreciate you sharing the information with us.

I've checked our technical database, and I'm unable to locate the model number you've provided. This could mean the number may be entered incorrectly, or the dryer may not be a UK model variant that we carry documentation for.

However, based on the symptoms you've described — the water tank error and clothes not drying properly — there are some checks worth exploring. One of the most common causes in heat pump tumble dryers is a faulty or misaligned moisture sensor inside the drum. If this sensor isn't reading moisture levels correctly, the dryer may terminate the cycle prematurely, leaving your laundry damp.

I've included videos below that show how to locate and inspect the moisture sensor. Please watch these carefully and check whether the sensor appears to be in good condition and properly positioned.

Since your dryer is a heat pump model, it also contains a compressor and refrigeration system, which adds complexity. Without the correct model information and technical specifications, I'm unable to provide more targeted guidance on the water tank error or the refrigeration circuit.

I'd recommend double-checking the model number on your appliance — it's usually found on a sticker inside the door frame or on the back panel. If you can provide the correct model number, I'll be able to access the full technical documentation and give you much more specific advice on resolving both issues.
