AEG L6FBG842R Washing Machine Shows E10 Error Code & Won’t Progress to Spin Stage

October 12, 2026
Customer Question

I have an AEG L6FBG842R Washing Machine. As above, on the ‘cottons’ program the timer sticks at 58 minutes while the drum continues to agitate for several minutes then code E10 appears; the drum continues to agitate but the ‘drain and spin’ stage never starts. If the machine is stopped then and ‘drain and spin’ is selected as a new program it works as it should. This, to me, implies that the pump is functioning properly. Could you please give any advice as to what may be causing the fault. Thank You.

Hi Mark, sorry to hear about the problem with your AEG L6FBG842R Washing Machine.
The E10 error code on AEG machines specifically indicates a water fill issue. Your deduction about the drain pump is absolutely correct—the drain and spin cycle works perfectly because it does not require any water intake.

The machine sticking at exactly 58 minutes is the classic hallmark of the cycle transitioning from the main wash to the first rinse phase. At this point, the machine needs to draw in fresh water, which often requires activating a different solenoid coil on the water inlet valve (such as the cold rinse or fabric softener coil). If this specific coil has failed, or if water isn't entering fast enough, the machine times out waiting for the pressure switch to register the new water level and throws the E10 code.

Here is the most logical diagnostic path:

Safety Isolation
Always ensure the washing machine is completely unplugged from the mains power before removing the top lid to test internal components.

1.Check the Water Supply and Hose:1 min.
Verify that the cold water tap is fully turned on and that the inlet hose is not kinked or trapped behind the machine. A restricted flow will cause a timeout error.

2.Inspect the Inlet Filters:5 mins.
Turn off the water supply, unscrew the inlet hose from the back of the machine, and check the small mesh filter inside the valve. In hard water areas, grit or limescale can easily block this mesh, slowing the water intake just enough to trigger an E10 during the rinse fill.

3.Test the Water Inlet Valve Solenoids:10 mins.
If the supply and filters are clear, the most likely culprit is a faulty coil on the water inlet valve. Remove the top lid of the machine and use a multimeter to test the continuity (resistance) across the terminals of each solenoid coil on the valve. A healthy coil should read around 3,000 to 4,000 ohms (3kΩ - 4kΩ). If one of the coils reads open circuit (O.L) or infinitely high, the entire inlet valve assembly needs replacing.

If the inlet valves test fine and the water pressure is strong, the next (though less common) area to investigate would be a blockage in the pressure switch chamber or a fault with the pressure switch itself failing to register the incoming water.
